Pam Adams Announces Publication of First Book: Once Upon A Family

Former Tazewell, VA resident, Pamela L. Adams, and Henderson Publications (Pounding Mill, VA) announce the publication of Adams’ first book, Once Upon a Family (A Son’s Journey of Love, Loss, and Hope). Written from her own personal experience, Adams’ book is the illustrated tale of a young boy struggling with the death of his beloved father. Once Upon a Family gives hope to grieving children and advice to the adults that guide them through their journey.

An integrated self-help workbook leads children to understand how their loss is physically and mentally affecting them. Adams has included practical suggestions to help children recover from their losses. Puzzles, mazes, journals, and heartfelt stories of people who have used their losses to make the world a better place keep children motivated to complete the workbook.

The final section of the book includes practical advice for adults who are working with grieving children. Adams explains that a child’s loss is not limited to the death of a family member, friend, or pet. Divorce, health problems, or a parent serving in a military service can also represent a sense of loss to a child. Once Upon a Family is certain to touch the lives of all who read it and soothe the grieving child who lives in us all.

Marc Klaas, Advocate for Child Safety Education, expresses that, "As the father of a child lost to violence, I can understand the difficulty of acknowledging, accepting and ultimately dealing with grief. Therefore, I can appreciate Ms. Adams' ability to gently lead children into a grieving process that is seemingly impossible for sophisticated adults to successfully navigate. Society is well served whenever caring adults are able to explain to children the dark side of reality with clarity borne of experience. Once Upon A Family is an accessible, valuable and long-needed resource."
