Many family reunions are held in the summer, but organizations that keep track of such matters say Thanksgiving is the most popular time for a reunion. People are more likely to be returning to home ground at Thanksgiving time. It could be a little late for August and September events. If you don't set your date a year in advance, some of your relatives will already have vacation reservations. Still, if many family members are not far away, a late summer reunion is still possible. For a group of 25 or less, one person (you) can handle most of the arrangements. The most common format is a carry-in dinner at a park or rented hall. Even with a small group, it's a good idea to name people for specific jobs like running kids' games, making a video, introducing people to each other, handling a sign-in book, and making a toast or two. Get ready for a good time, but keep in mind that people don't change much. They'll still comment on your weight, ask personal questions, and bring up embarrassing childhood experiences. Ya gotta love 'em -- They're your family, after all.
