Parents Voice Concerns about the Number One Accidental Killer of Infants and Toddlers

As the number one accidental killer of infants and toddlers continues to increase in the United States, so does the voice of the American Family relating to the problem of Foreign Body Suffocation. The use of the internet has made it easier than ever to educate Parents and Grandparents about potentially deadly objects currently being sold throughout the United States. It has also made it easier for thousands upon thousands to voice their opinion to the Producers and United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

An individual who has experienced a problem with a product now has the ability to take matters into his/her own hands. One such father, George DeCell, created a website, www.chokecap.com, which is dedicated to reducing the number of needless suffocation accidents of American Infants and Toddlers. Mr. DeCell got the idea for the website after receiving thousands of signatures from concerned citizens and spending more than one year compiling data supporting the need for a change to the Small Parts Test Fixture.

The Website raises many safety questions relating to Infant and Toddler suffocation but focuses its efforts on getting the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to change the current size of the Small Parts Test Fixture. According to data provided by Ram Consulting, the CPSC can “achieve greater protection from risk by modification of the Small Parts Test Fixture (SPTF) from 1.25 to 1.75 in. diameter. Although 99% of Foreign Bodies causing injury are less than 1.25 inches in greatest diameter in both the Jackson collection and Modern Study, 100% of Foreign Bodies are eliminated when the test size is greater than 1.75 inches.”

Per the www.chokecap.com, this data prompted certain Producers to take notice within the first 6 hours of the data being posted and the CPSC within the first 24 hours. Word about this website is spreading fast thanks to the combined efforts of advertising websites such a www.Ad-Site.com which has added a link from every page to help support the cause.

Other data posted includes support from the American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Medical Association, Consumers Union, Ram Consulting, National SAFE KIDS Campaign, various on-line retailers, and doctors located throughout the United States. Is also includes data, supplied by the CPSC, which indicates that the CPSC has been aware of the problem since the 1970’s when they forced the producers to increase the size requirement of pacifier shields to be greater than 1.70 inches in diameter and have a minimum of at least two (2) ventilation holes.

Visit the website at www.chokecap.com for more information.
